We start from trust — students, educators and employers acting in good faith — and then we verify. Every claim on Career Fusion moves through a five-stage verification pipeline built on Open Badges 3.0 / W3C Verifiable Credentials, so what an employer sees is signed, tamper-evident, and portable to a wallet the student owns. Trust is the default; verification is what makes it hold up.
The five-stage verification pipeline
Every skill claim moves through five escalating stages. Higher stages carry more weight with employers — and a claim can be shown honestly at whatever stage it has actually reached. There is no false binary of "verified" or "not."
Identity binding
A one-time ID and liveness check ties every future submission to one real, unique person — closing off duplicate or anonymous accounts.
Process capture
The work itself is logged as it happens — commit history, drafting history, time-on-task — instead of only a finished artefact being uploaded.
Human witness sign-off
An educator or employer who actually observed the work vouches for it, with their own reputation and future vouching rights at stake.
Independent audit
A random sample of verified profiles gets an unannounced live spot-check — a short follow-up challenge that re-tests the claim.
Confidence score
Employers see a tiered trust score — self-reported, institution-graded, employer-witnessed, or independently audited — not a single pass/fail badge.
Defeating specific fraud scenarios
Self-reported CV lines carry no weight on their own. Every claim must trace back to Stage 2–5 evidence — process log, witness sign-off, or audit — before it appears as anything more than 'claimed'.
Third-party certificates are never treated as self-verifying. They are checked against the issuing body's registry where one exists, and otherwise downgraded until an educator or employer attests to the underlying skill.
Not by inspecting the finished artefact — by capturing the process that produced it (Stage 2) and pairing it with a short, unpredictable live walkthrough where the student explains their own reasoning (Stage 3).
Collusion or ghostwriting collapses under a live, unscheduled follow-up question far more reliably than any plagiarism scanner on the artefact itself — that's exactly what Stages 3 and 4 are built to catch.
Reputation staking
Educators and employers who vouch for a student's work are not making a one-off administrative click — they are putting their own standing on the platform on the line. Repeated vouches that later fail an audit downgrade the voucher's own verification rights — the same mechanism that keeps ratings honest on marketplaces like Airbnb or eBay.
Portable, standards-based
We build on emerging Open Badges 3.0 / W3C Verifiable Credentials rather than a bespoke format. Every credential is cryptographically signed by its issuer, tamper-evident, and portable to a wallet the student owns.
